Venus Pool - Gone fishing

Have you ever tossed a peanut in the air and tried to catch it in your mouth (without choking as well)?? Imagine having to eat nearly all your food in this fashion!

Little Egrets have it down to a fine art of course and whilst they will feed on larger prey, the staple diet at VP is small fish. The stealthy stalk and lunge with the bill is followed by a toss in the air and gulp as the victim disappears down that cavernous throat....

Cormorants are pretty adept at the technique too and as they break the surface, the toss, swallow sequence is over in the blink of an eye. Judging by the size of this small morsel, this one is going to be kept pretty busy!!

Hmm, maybe a closer look is called for?
