Ferncliff Forest - Bird walk

A bird walk with the local bird club got me out and about with some of the local birders! Fantastic hospitality and of course, plenty of birds! It was a day for Warblers but not a chance of pictures with most very high in the canopy. Black and White, Black-throated Green, Blackburnian, Worm eating Warblers were all glimpsed together with Northern Parula. Yellow throated and Warbling Vireo, American Redstart, Red-breasted Grosbeak, Scarlet Tanager were amongst the better birds seen on the day, in all about 40 species.....

Just about the only bird to come close and pose for a decent shot was this Baltimore Oriole

Not the most pleasing of angles but this will almost certainly be the only Grest-crested Flycatcher of the trip!

Yet another Eastern Phoebe......

And the most amazing sonsgster of these woodlands - Wood Thrush!

I teamed up with some of the lcoal birders after the walk and a bit of local knowledge led us to a family of Great horned Owls

At last, a bit closer to Eastern Bluebird!

And very difficult in these parts - Bald Eagle!

Final bird of the day whilst waiting for my lift was this Red-bellied Woodpecker....
